Moms Who Made It... Literally!
A Mother’s Day Tribute
by Melissa Gould & Ellie Miller, The Baby Planners
t is said that “necessity is the mother of invention,” but until becoming mothers ourselves we didn’t realize that invention was a necessity of motherhood. The idea behind our own mom-run company, The Baby Planners, was born out of our less-than-stellar baby planning experiences. We needed a little extra help with baby prep and thought others might too. Thankfully, we were right!
Similarly, the moms profiled here saw a need that prior to motherhood, they didn’t know existed. They used their mom-smarts and business intuition and got busy, thus creating astounding results.
In honor of Mother’s Day, we wanted to pay tribute to these women as amazing, creative, and truly inspiring moms who made it!
HAPPY HEINYS
Linda Byerline had a diaper dilemma. This mother of three kept running into the same problem – uncomfortable and irritating diapers that left her little ones with red marks and rashes. So she headed to the sewing machine and has been there ever since! As the creator, founder, and mom behind Happy Heinys, Linda found a solution to her problem. These high quality and environmentally safe cloth diapers are now sold worldwide so families everywhere can benefit from her efforts. We say, bravo!
SMART MOM JEWELRY
We’ve all been there. Baby pulling at our hair, our earrings, our necklaces... well these two Moms, Amy Maurer and Kendra LaDuca, actually did something smart about it. They created Teething Bling - “pretty
and practical jewelry” that baby can tug, teethe, and toss to their hearts' content! These funky and fashionable pendants and bangles are non-toxic, phthalate free, and are the perfect accessory for everyone from Mom to Grandma. They’re so fab, you may even wear it without baby in tow.
HOME MADE BABY
Like all parents, Theresa Kiene wanted only the best for her baby. When faced with few options other than preservative laden foods with a shelf life longer than her own, she didn’t panic, she prevailed. Theresa got busy studying nutrition and started cooking her own healthy, fresh, and delicious baby food. Now look no further than your local Whole Foods Market to find an array of Home Made Baby delights. They’re organic, freshly prepared, and in recyclable grab-and-go containers. Yum!
MY MOMMY’S POCKETS by Progeny
What Mom hasn’t found herself with a bottle in one hand, a dirty diaper in the other, the phone ringing, baby crying and in desperate need of an extra hand or two? Erin Moyer found an answer in her stylish and sassy Mommy’s Pockets – an apron with plenty of pockets for everything Mommy and baby could possibly need. Mommy Pockets are functional, fashion forward, and flattering. They’re even hip enough to wear when out doing errands. This ain’t your Mother’s apron!
BABY SPARE WEAR
From parks, to Grandma’s house, to restaurants, babies have accidents that often leave Mom and Dad scrambling to find a suitable spare outfit. It’s never pretty... until now. Enter Veronica Milito, the creative mind and Mom behind BabySpareWear – emergency, mix and match outfits that come in a cute travel case. She took a modern approach to a simple idea and now these chic and convenient options “are a must-have accessory for parents everywhere." Go, Veronica!
And of course we couldn’t do a “Mothers Who Made It” article without including The Cradle’s own Hilary Zalon. When she was pregnant, she had trouble finding a singular site that addressed all of her pre and post pregnancy needs. So shortly thereafter, she not only gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, but to The Cradle as well. Lucky for all of us!
